Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (EN) Review
Hey everybody,
'Manouk? I haven't watched or read any Harry Potter movie or book, but can I still watch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them?' I had to answer this question multiple times in the past few weeks and the answer is a bit complicated: technically you don't, but if you want to fully understand the greater story, then you have to. I'm considering writing a blog explaining a few pieces of Potter history for the ones who never read the books, because this piece of history isn't explained in the movies either. However this will have to wait, because it's now time to review Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. (Pff that title is really long if you have to write it over and over again).
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them tells the story of writer and magizoologist Newt Scamander, an Englishman traveling to New York carrying a case full of magical creatures. He becomes part of an adventure concerning New York's secret community of witches and wizards when some of his creatures escape from the case. He must find them before they get hurt, but there maybe much darker things loose in New York.
Before we begin I have to get a few things of my heart: I wasn't exactly thrilled to hear that Johnny Depp would be playing Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts sequel. I'm not a fan of his work, but if J.K. Rowling has fate in him, then who am I to judge otherwise. He even briefly appears in this movie. Okay, time to begin. Fantastic Beasts was fantastic. It is carried by an incredible and lovable performance by Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander. You can feel Newt's compassion for these creatures, his love sparkes of the screen. These creatures are beautifully created, each with their own story and they are an absolute joy to watch. The movie however starts of a bit slow setting up the storyline of not only this movie, but also the next four that will follow. It's slightly chaotic, but Newt will pull you through. The collaboration between J.K. Rowling and David Yates once again pull of. I'm excited to see the greater story play out in the next four movies. It was amazing to return to the Wizarding World.
