Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (EN) Review
Hey everybody,
This blog is a premier: it's the first blog I've ever written after viewing a movie not once but twice. I can honestly say that second viewings always change your perspective on a movie. The story is clear so you got more time to pay attention to all the details and clues that were still hidden from you during the first viewing. Your perspective on the way the story is told changes and think it's time to see if that was was the case with Rogue One. Let's get started
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the story of Jyn Erso, daughter of Galen Erso. When, as a child, her father gets captured he is forced to work on the development of a superwapen: the Death Star. Jyn gets involved in the Rebellion and has to work with them to find her father and steal the Death Star plans or otherwise face the rounding of this planet destroyer.
A Star Wars movie is cinematicly characterized by the iconic opening crawl that all seven movies feature, except for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. I don't know the reason why director Gareth Edwards choose not to include an opening crawl, but it made the first half of the movie feel off.. The beginning of the movie was very slow and that was partially caused by the missing opening crawl. Without the usual introduction I was left a bit confused, you normally don't step into a Star Wars movie all blank. The second half of the movie was increasingly better due to the introduction of some spectaculair action scenes we've never seen before. The film isn't all to loving for it's main characters and although it was expected, it still was very dark. On the other side they showed a side of the war between the Rebellion and the Empire we had also never seen before. The part were both sides had to make great sacrifices to serve the higher cause. Rogue One is a worthy addition to the Star Wars saga and the ending is one of the best movie endings I've ever seen.
