2018 - My 10 most anticipated movies

Hey everybody,

2017 has come to an end and overall it's been a pretty good year in movies. A few highly anticipated movies came out and performed well. The only downside of this year was the box office numbers during the summer, they were pretty disappointing, which resulted into a few flops. But we are not here today to look at the past, we are here to look at the future. With 2018 here it is time for me to make a list of my most anticipated movies for 2018. Please note that these movies are in random order. Let us get started then!

1- Avengers Infinity War (May 4)
Undoubtely every addition to the MCU is anticipated. So Black Panther (February 16) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6) also deserve a mention on my list. But if I have to choose between the three movies I will defenitly choose for the movie the MCU has been preparing for for a long time now. Now, I haven't seen any of the trailers for this movie, but I know this is going to be one hell of a movie.

2- Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (November 16)
Overall the internet is not a big fan of the casting of Johnny Depp as Grindelwald and I would be lying if I told you I don't agree. This movie will follow the adventures of Newt Scamander. He is probably going to run into Grindelwald again and meet with Albus Dumbledore. There is still much unknown but let's say Johnny Depp and Jude Law have big shoes to fill.

3- Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25)
How about we just go on to the next movie on my list, because do I really need to explain myself. Alden Ehrenreich plays Han Solo. The movie will stell the story of Han and Chewie before they agreed to take one Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker on a mission to Alderaan. Talk about anticipated.

4- Deadpool 2 (June 1)
Sequels are hard, and although almost every movie on this list is a sequel, a comedy sequel is even harder. To top the laughs and humor of the first one is difficult. Deadpool was an absolute joy and really rewatchable, but now the origin story is out of the way we are hopefully in for a lot more action, humor and Deadpool.

5-  Aquaman (December 21)
The DCEU, probably one of the most talked about franchises, had a mixed year in 2017. Wonder Woman was a critical and commercial succes and for the first time everybody agreed on what they thought of the movie. Then Justice League came out and everybody was divided once again. The movie also hugely underperformed at the box office. Anticipation is once again high for the DCEU, because how many 'mistakes' can the franchise handle before DC pulls the plug out of a franchise which seems somehow doomed. Aquaman needs to save both Atlantis and the DCEU.

6- X-Men: Dark Phoenix (November 2)
2017 was a really quiet year for the X-Men franchise. Logan made sure we will never see Hugh Jackman's Wolverine again in the franchise and with that an era has ended. This movie will undoubtely take of were X-Men: Apocalypse ended and luckily a large part of that cast is back for the new installment. Apocalypse wasn't a masterpiece and I wasn't a big fan of Sophie Turner's performance as Jean Grey so I am keeping my fingers crossed for this new installment. This movie will be the second outing of the franchise next year. First we will get The New Mutants (April 13), a very different movie, because the trailer and poster confirm that will be more a horror movie then a superhero movie. Overall a very curious and defining year for the X-Men franchise

7- Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22)
I don't know about you guys, but I got some serious goosebumps when I heard the T-Rex roar at the end of the trailer. I loved Jurassic World when it came out. It wasn't nearly as good as Jurassic Park, but it had plenty of dinosaur fun, so let's see how many of that fun they can bring back for the sequel.

8- Pacific Rim Uprising (March 23)
Okay so we have big robots fighting big monsters. If you aren't already hooked, that's a real shame for you because this is the premise for pure summer blockbuster entertainment. The first Pacific Rim was awesome and gave audiences exactly what they wanted. Now you don't need Idris Elba to convince me to watch this sequel.

9- Tomb Raider (March 16)
Girl power on the rise! I think you can almost see this movie as a superhero movie, with a badass female lead. Lara Croft is the very defenition of badass and this time she is played by Alicia Vikander, who has more then proven herself by now. The only downside is that the trailer didn't looked as awesome as expected in my eyes, but maybe Hollywood for once saves everything good about a movie for the actual movie.

10- Mowgli (October 19)
Until only weeks ago this movie was just known as The Jungle Book. I think they changed the name to escape confusion between this movie and the Disney live-action version from 2016. The movie will tell the same story we know and love, but will, according to Warner Bros, focus more on Mowgli's origins. Because this movie is being released only two years after the Disney version, people will compare them a lot. I am curious to see how this movie will be able to distinguish itself from the Disney versions. At least they have an amazing cast with big names like Cate Blanchett (Kaa), Andy Serkis (Baloo), Christian Bale (Bagheera) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Shere Khan)

So there you have it: my list for 2018. This is ofcourse only a handfull of the movies to be released in 2018. There is much more to look forward to. Here a list of some other movies I'll also defenitly see in 2018:
  • The Greatest Showman (January 4)12 Strong (January 18); Maze Runner: The Death Cure (January 26)
  • Fifty Shades Freed (February 9); Peter Rabbit (February 9); Annihilation (February 23)
  • Red Sparrow (March 2)A Wrinkle in Time (March 9); Gringo (March 9)Ready Player One (March 30)
