March reviews - Tomb Raider, Ready Player One and more
Hey everybody,
The Oscars have past by pretty boring this year, but I think it was a fair awardshow. There were a lot of different movies who won an Oscar. The biggest winner was The Shape of Water, which received four Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. After its win, I really had to go see the movie, and find out if it was as good as everyone said it was. But there are much more reviews here for this month, including Red Sparrow, the new Lara Croft reboot-movie and a new Spielberg movie.
Red Sparrow (★★★☆☆)
''A good, old fashion spy thriller'' I think that is the best way to describe Red Sparrow. Jennifer Lawrence is back, after a pretty quiet 2017, and she proves why she is one of the most talented actresses working today. Red Sparrow is a tale of deception and manipulation, and features raw scenes of heavy violence. Not the best spy thriller, but still a fun and decent movie.
The Shape of Water (★★★★☆)
Is there something like too much expectation. Probably yeah, because I'm afraid The Shape of Water had just too much to live up to when I finally went to see it. The Shape of Water is a beautiful story, don't get me wrong, but despite the fantasy element and the great performances by Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon and Doug Jones ofcourse, I just didn't 'feel' it.
Annihilation (★★★★☆)
I seriously looked for these when this movie was going to be in the cinema, because the release date said March 12. Then I discoverd this movie was a Netflix Original and that it is one of the coolest movies of the year till today. It is weird, beautiful and really creepy. It probably has one of the most disturbing scenes in recent history and you know which scene I am talking about when you see the movie.
Tomb Raider (★★★☆☆)
Do you think it is too late to change my profession, because it sure looks cool to be an archeologist and certainly to be a badass chick like Lara Croft. The reboot movie is a joy to watch and entertaining from head to start. Alicia Vikander is awesome and, most importantly, believable as Lara Croft.
Ready Player One (★★★★★)
I don't consider myself the biggest geek out there and I have defenitly still a lot to learn about gaming, but seeing Ready Player One was absolutely amazing. This movie is packed with Easter Eggs and gaming references that I'll probably have to watch it ten more times to spot them all. Despite that the movie has a great, compelling story with amazing visual effects.
So there you have it, my reviews for March 2018. Who else is excited for April, because one of the most anticipated movies of the past 10 years will finally be here: Avengers Infinity War! Let's hope that I can come back to you at the end of April with a great review for it and for other movies coming out this April. I'll be back
