Kong: Skull Island (EN) Review

Hey everybody,

It's time to state the facts about Kong: Skull Island here.
Fact 1: Kong: Skull Island isn't always your average monster movie. Most monster movies effectively use mystery to build up suspense and make you eagerly wait for the big reveal of the monster. Kong: Skull Island made clear from the trailers that they weren't going to use that technique, since they already revealed how Kong would look. Kong looks great but it's a shame they already revealed him because that suspense building is a big part of the fun of watching a monster movie. I wouldn't have minded if they'd waited to reveal him in the movie itself.
Fact 2: Kong: Skull Island brings you the movie monster battle you want. Kong, like Godzilla, isn't the main antagonist in the movie, but more the protagonist, also like Godzilla, and the movie ends with a great battle between protagonist and antagonist. This battle is brought in al its monster glory and is a phenomenal end, even though the battle scene is the only scene the big antagonist is in.
Fact 3: Skull Island isn't the terrifying place I'd hoped it would be. Skull Island, ofcourse not my first choice to spent my vacation on, is supposed to be and island filled with horrors but I never felt the people stranded on the island were in constant mortal danger. Besides the Skullcrawlers, a few birds and one big spider, they failed to really scare me unfortunately. The Skullcrawlers are underused and get too little screentime.
Fact 4: Kong: Skull Island doesn't waste its great cast. The movie brought some serious starpower and that starpower isn't wasted on vage character motivations, unnecessary sideplots or forced love stories. The movie is pretty funny at times thanks to it's great cast and characters.
Fact 5: Kong: Skull Island is a visual feast for the eye. The landscapes are beautiful and they effectively use fire and smoke to create a thrilling but beautifull environement.
Fact 6: Kong: Skull Island is a great and entertaining movie. I'm a big fan of monster movies and seeing this version of Kong was great. I can't wait to see him battle Godzilla in 2020.
