Hoi allemaal, Deze blog is een primeur: het is mijn eerste blog die ik geschreven heb nadat ik een film niet een maar twee keer heb gezien. Ik kan eerlijk zeggen dat na een tweede keer kijken je perspectief op een film altijd verandert. Het verhaal is dan al duidelijk en je kunt je nu focussen op alle details en clues die nog verborgen voor je waren tijdens de eerste keer. Je perspectief op de manier waarop het verhaal verteld word veranderd ook en ik denk dat het tijd is om te zien of dat bij Rogue One ook het geval was. Laten we beginnen. Hey everybody, This blog is a premier: it's the first blog I've ever written after viewing a movie not once but twice. I can honestly say that second viewings always change your perspective on a movie. The story is clear so you got more time to pay attention to all the details and clues that were still hidden from you during the first viewing. Your perspective on the way the story is told changes and think it's time to see if that was was the case with Rogue One. Hoi allemaal, Aliens. Hollywood houd van ze en wij ook. De mensheid zal altijd gefascineerd blijven door ze: hoe zouden ze eruit zijn? Komen ze in vrede? We hebben al verschillende films gezien waarin deze buitenaardse besluiten een bezoekje te brengen aan ons en meestal eindigt dat niet goed voor ons mensen. Hey everybody, Aliens. Hollywood absolutely loves them and so do we. Mankind will always be fascinated by them: What would they look like? Would they be friendly? We've seen several movies were this Extra-Terrestrial life decides to visit Earth and most of the time it doesn't end well for us humans. Hoi allemaal, 'Manouk? Ik heb nog nooit een Harry Potter boek of film gezien of gelezen, maar kan ik dan wel gewoon naar  Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them ?' Ik heb deze vraag in de afgelopen weken meerdere keren moeten beantwoorden en het antwoord is een beetje gecompliceerd: technisch gezien hoeft het niet, maar als je het grotere verhaal erachter helemaal wil begrijpen, dan is het wel noodzakelijk. Hey everybody, 'Manouk? I haven't watched or read any Harry Potter movie or book, but can I still watch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? ' I had to answer this question multiple times in the past few weeks and the answer is a bit complicated: technically you don't, but if you want to fully understand the greater story, then you have to. Hoi allemaal, Ik kreeg de wijze raad on mijn reviews niet in haast te schrijven, maar adrenaline pompt echt door mijn aderen naar het zien van Doctor Strange. Ik zal er voor zorgen om mijn review zorgvuldig te schrijven en lezen. Waarschuwing genoteerd. Hey everybody, I was told not to write my reviews in a rush, but adrenaline is pumping throuhg my veins after seeing Doctor Strange . So I'll make sure to read and write my review very carefully, Warning noted.   Doctor Strange tells the story of Stephen Strange, an arrogant neurosurgeon who loses the function of his hands in a car accident. Without his hands he can no longer do his job and he goes on a search to find a treatment or solution. He discovers a secret society and meets a sorcerer called The Ancient One. The only way to heal himself is by learning the mystic arts, so he becomes her student, but it's not an easy job. Especially when the world is threatened by powerful and mystical forces. Hoi allemaal, Eindelijk nog een boekverfilming van een Dan Brown boek. Ik hou van zijn boeken, de perfecte mix van geschiedenis en actie. Hey everybody, Finally another movie adaptation of a Dan Brown novel. I love his books, they are the perfect mix of history and action. I also am a great fan of their movie adaptations, despite what critics say, both  The Da Vince Code  (2006) and  Angels & Demons  (2009) are great movies, carried by one of my favorite Hollywood actors: Tom Hanks. He's now finally back as Professor Langdon in the movie adaptation of Dan Brown's latest novel Inferno and am I glad he is. Hoi allemaal, Wanneer een film uitkomt gebaseerd op een boek komt steeds hetzelfde dilemma naar boven: hoe kies je ervoor het verhaal eerst te leren? Lees het boek en kijk dan de film of andersom. Ik kan niet vertellen wat de beste manier is, ik probeer zelf altijd eerst het boek te lezen, maar in dit geval had ik dat misschien beter niet kunnen doen. Hey everybody, A movie based on a book always brings with it the same dilemma: how do you choose to learn the story first? Read the book and then watch the movie or otherwise. I can not tell which way is the best. I usually try to read the book before seeing the movie, but in this case maybe I should not have done that. Rachel Watson is an alcoholic divorcee who takes the same train to work everyday. On her way to work she passes past a couple of houses. One of those houses is owned by her ex-husband Tom and his new girlfriend Anna. A few doors down lives a couple, Scott and Megan, whom she never met, but she always fantasises about their relationship. Hey everybody, Summer is over and I don't normally think that is good, but this summer season we were very disappointed. Normally summer is the time for big summer blockbusters and box office hits, last year we had both Avengers: Age of Ultron  (2015) and Jurassic World  (2015). This year almost every movie underperformed at the box office and the quality wasn't good either. So just let this summer get over and start to look ahead: fall is upon us. This means new movies: a Harry Potter spin-off, a new adition to the MCU and another adventure in a galaxy far far away. Hey everybody, Imagine this: it's Sunday evening, I've had a long week of school and work, had a lot of fun Saturday night and so I got home very late. What do I want then on this Sunday evening? Hey everybody, It's vacation time, which means I have a little bit of spare time. So I decided to use this spare time to clear a view things up for you. There are so many different superhero movies and TV series that it's easy to understand why people could get confused. Someone asked me a few weeks ago if there was any chance we would see Batman fight Iron Man. Hearing that and knowing the complexibility of all these different superhero universes, I decided it was time for a blog. In the world of comic books there are two major publishers: Marvel comics and DC comics. They both have been here for a very long time now. Marvel comics was founded in 1939 and DC comics in 1934. There has been a battle between them for over 70 years and they often inspire and steel from eachother. Hoi allemaal, Fan of geen fan, ik denk dat we het er allemaal over eens kunnen zijn dat de DC Extended Universe een stroeve start heeft. Het lijkt wel of elke film tot nu toe fans en critici verdeeld. We hebben het tot nu toe gezien bij zowel Man of Steel (2013) en Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). Hey everybody, Fan or no fan I think we can all agree that the DC Extended Universe has had a rough start. It appears that every movie so far has fans and critics divided. We've seen that with both Man of Steel (2013) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). So the DCEU had their hopes fixed on the new addition Suicide Squad . But then again the world was divided: critics didn't love it and the fans got angry because they did. Reading all these mixed oppinions always make me more and more curious to see any movie. Hoi allemaal, Het duurde 11 jaar maar nu is het dan eindelijk zover: de terugkeer van Matt Damon als Jason Bourne. Niet alleen is Damon terug, maar ook Paul Greengrass, de regisseur van de eerste Bourne triologie. En ze hebben grote schoenen te vullen. Ik realiseerde weer, na het terugkijken van de originele triologie deze week, dat Jason Bourne het voor mij wint van Bond. Hey everybody, It took 11 years, but the moment of Matt Damon's return as Jason Bourne has finally arrived. Not only Damon is returning, director of the original triology, Paul Greengrass as well. They have some big shoes to fill. I realised again, after rewatching the original triology last week, that I would defenitly choose Jason Bourne above Bond. Even after this slightly disappointing fourth/fifth installment of the franchise. When the CIA gets hacked Jason Bourne finds himself once again in trouble and framed for something he wasn't involved in. The hacker has discovered some unreaveled secrets about Jason Bourne's past and the Treadstone program he used to work for. Bourne goes on a hunt to discover the truth about his past and especially his father. Hoi allemaal, Als je ooit de kans krijgt om een filmmarathon in de bioscoop te zien moet je die kans absoluut pakken. I raad het zeer aan. Het is nu de tweede keer dat ik deze ervaring heb mogen meemaken, de eerste keer met de premiere van The Hobbit: the Battle of the Five Armies (2014), en afgelopen nacht met de premiere van Star Trek Beyond . Ik heb 7 uur in de bioscoop gespendeerd met kijken van Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) en Star Trek Beyond en ik heb genoten van elke seconde. De USS Enterprise is midden in zijn vijfjarige reis om nog niet in kaart gebrachte uithoeken van het heelal te ontdekken, maar de reis begint zijn tol te eisen op de bemanningsleden en hun kapitein. Hey everybody, If you ever get the chance to watch a movie marathon in the theater, you should defenitly take it. I highly recommend it. It's the second time now that I have this experience, the first time was when The Hobbit: the Battle of the Five Armies (2014) premiered, and last night I had the same experience with the premiere of Star Trek Beyond . I've spent 7 hours in the theater watching Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond  and I loved every second of it! The USS Enterprise is in the middle of its 5-year voyage to discover new uncharted worlds across the galaxy, but the journey starts to take its toll on the crewmembers and their captain. There they encounter a new and ruthless enemy, who puts them and every they stand for to the ultimate test. So ever since I started this blog I started watching movies from a different perspective. Hoi allemaal, Het is bijna niet te geloven dat dit alweer de vijfde Ice Age film is, de eerste kwam 14(!) jaar geleden uit. Je zou denken dat ze nu toch onderhand geen materiaal meer hebben om een film over te maken, maar je hebt het mis. Manny, Sid en Diego hebben al heel wat problemen doorstaan, maar in dit vijfde deel van de Ice Age franchise ontdekken ze dat een alles vernietigende asteroïde hun kant op komt. Met de hulp van hun oude vriend Buck moeten ze een manier vinden om de asteroïde te stoppen voordat deze hun huis en hun bestaan verwoest. Kijk ik weet dat dit een film is voor kinderen en dat die nooit heel erg realistisch zijn, maar ze zijn nu zeker door hun aannemelijke materiaal heen om een film over te maken. Hey everybody, I can't beleive this is already the fifth Ice Age movie, the first one was released 14(!) years ago. You would think that by now they've run out of material, but apparently they haven't. We've seen Manny, Sid and Diego guide themselves through all sorts of problems, but in this fifth installment of the Ice Age franchise our friends and their families discover that an all destroying asteroid is heading their way. With the help of their old friend Buck they must find a way to stop this asteroid from destroying their home and their very existence. Look I know this is a children's movie and those are never very realistic, but they've clearly run out of plausible material for this franchise. I love the Ice Age franchise and the first installment is one of my favorite animated movies ever, but as a true fan I must say that I hope this one is the last one of the franchise. Hey everybody, It's been a while since you've heard from me but I've just been a little busy. Not with watching new movies but don't worry, I'll catch up. Because of all this I only just now got the time to tell you what I think of the Legend of Tarzan and it's been a couple of days already since I saw it. At least I had enough time to think about what I want to write for you. If you think the Legend of Tarzan will tell you the same story as the Disney classic  Tarzan (1999) you're so wrong. So understand that it isn't the same story otherwise you might leave the theater disappointed.  The movie follows Tarzan eight years after he left Africa and went to live in London when he is called back to the jungle.  Even I thought that it would tell the same story and I wasn't happy when I saw that it would be this dark, grim reboot. Hey everybody, When you decide to make a movie based on a game, you must know that it will only be appealing to a select group of people: the people who've played the game. Nonetheless there are always layman like me who will see it. So you have to make a movie that's understandeble for people who haven't played the game and those who know it inside out. That's not an easy job. Warcraft or Warcraft the Beginning follows the story of the war between Men and Orc and how that came to be. When the land of the Orcs is dying they go on a search for a new home: Azaroth, the home of Men. A war between the two species begins, but not all of the Orcs are on the same side. Will they find a way to coexist? So, as I previously said, I am not familiair with the world of Warcraft, but that didn't meant I wasn't willing to step into this new world with an open mind. Hoi allemaal, Ik heb gemerkt dat ik in mijn reviews vaak gebruik maak van specifiek drie woorden: het is lastig. En nou ja .. dat is wel waar. Het maken van een film is gewoon lastig en zeker het maken van een sequel op een film die zo geliefd is bij iedereen, waaronder ik. Daarnaast deed ik iets wat of het beste of het slechtste idee was: ik zag de film tijdens een filmmarathon waarin eerst Finding Nemo (2005)   werd gedraaid en daarna Finding Dory . In Finding Dory volgen we Dory in haar zoektocht naar haar familie. Deze zoektocht is niet makkelijk als je je bedenkt dat de hoofdpersoon lijdt aan korte termijn geheugenverlie. Hey everybody, I noticed that in a lot of my reviews I use three specific words: It is tricky. And well .. it is true. Making a movie is a tricky business and especially making a sequel to a movie that is so beloved by everybody, including me. So I did something that is either the best or the worst idea: I went to a moviemarathon were they first showed Finding Nemo (2005) and then Finding Dory. In Finding Dory we follow Dory when she goes on a search for her long lost family. That search is even more difficult then it sounds because Dory suffers from shortterm memory loss. This disability is what made her such a populair character in the first movie, but can a movie around a fish with shortterm memory loss hold it's own? Do you want to spend 90 minutes with a fish who constantly keeps forgetting what she's doing or why she's doing it? Yes, you definitly want to! Hey everybody, Comic book movies . Since the release of X-Men in 2000, which proved that comic book movies can be good, we've seen many comic book movies and we haven't seen the end of it. In the next couple of years over 15 comic book movies will be released. So what exactly have Marvel and DC next for us? Well that's what you're going to find out. Hey everybody, When you start watching a movie starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonhem Carter and Sasha Baron Cohen, with Tim Burton as its director, you know you're in for a 'freakshow' and a visual spectacle. If you're looking for that in a movie, then Alice Through The Looking Glass is the perfect movie for you. In this sequel to Alice in Wonderland (2010) Alice must travel back to Underland to save her friend the Mad Hatter, who has become ill. The only way to do that, is to travel back in time. But messing with time is a dangerous thing to do, will she succeed and be able to save the Mad Hatter? I wasn't enthousiastic about this movie when I heard it was being made. I'm not a fan of Team Burton/Depp, even though they have made some good movies together, but not in the last couple of years. Hoi allemaal, Ik moet heel eerlijk zijn, ik was een beetje sceptisch over deze film. X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) had mij teleurgesteld, ik weet nog steeds waarom precies, ik miste gewoon iets. Daarom waren mijn verwachtingen voor deze film niet heel hoog, gelukkig kan een film je op die manier alleen maar verrassen toch? X-Men: Apocalypse speelt zich af 10 jaar na de gebeurtenissen van X-Men: Days fo Future Past. Wanneer zowel de titel als de slechterik de naam Apocalyps dragen, wat letterlijk het einde van de wereld betekent, verwacht ik ook wel het einde van de wereld te zien. Helaas bewaart de film dit einde van de wereld tot de laatste 30 minuten. De showdown is episch, maar je moet er wel iets te lang op te wachten. Hoi allemaal, Ik denk dat ik te veel tijd spendeer in de bioscoop omdat A. de mensen die er werken mij beginnen te herkennen en B. mijn vrienden zeiden me dit: 'Manouk, jij gaat echt teveel naar de bioscoop'. Dat is best een duidelijke boodschap. Nou ik heb nu een boodschap voor jullie: ga nu en spendeer wat tijd in de bioscoop met het kijken van The Nice Guys. Ryan Gosling and Russel Crowe spelen een mismatcht paar van privé detectives die onderzoek doen naar de vermissing van een jongedame en de dood van een pornoster. Ze zijn echter niet de enige die interesse hebben en de anderen zijn misschien niet zo 'nice' als dat zij zijn. De hele autorit naar huis kon ik gewoon niet stoppen met lachen, deze film was zo ontzettend hilarisch. Hoi allemaal, Ik heb absoluut geen enkel verstand van financiën, de wereldeconomie of de aandelenmarkt. Ik krijg al hoofdpijn als ik er aan denk bij wijze van spreken. Waarom dan ben ik deze film gaan zien? 1. Ik was wel weer een toe aan een goede thriller 2. Omdat ik een blog schrijf over films zo ik vind het een soort van mijn plicht om zoveel mogelijk films te kijken en 3. Ik had een vrije avond dus waar beter dat te besteden als in de bioscoop Money Monster volgt tv presentator Lee Gates wanneer hij gekidnapt wordt tijdens een uitzending. Samen met zijn regisseur Pattty moet hij zich een weg praten door de situatie wanneer hun leven en die van de rest van de crew op het spel staan. Wat wil deze man van hun en is hij de echte slechterik in dit verhaal? Een goede thriller houdt je op het puntje van je stoel, toch? Laten we zeggen dat ik ergens halverwege mijn stoel zat. Hey everybody, I think I'm spending to much time in the cinema because A. the people who work there are starting to recognize me and B. my friends told me: 'Manouk, you're spending to much time in the theater'. Well that's a pretty clear message. Well I also have a message to you now: go and spend some time in the theater watching The Nice Guys!! Gosling and Crowe play a mismatched pair of private eyes who investigate the missing of a young lady and the death of a porn star. They are however not the only ones interested and the other parties involved may not be as 'nice' as they are. The whole ride home I just couldn't stop laughing. I found this movie so freaking hilarious. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe just make the perfect pair and proof why they are both well respected actors. Hey everybody, I have to be honest, I was a little sceptical about this movie. X-Men Days of Future Past (2014) was a disappointment to me, I don't know why exactly, but I missed something. My expectations for this movie were therefore not high, fortunately that way a movie can only surprise you, right? X-Men: Apocalypse continues 10 years after the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past. With both the title and the main villain called Apocalypse, which literally means end of the world, I expected to see the end of the world. Instead the movie waits until the last 30 minutes for this end of the world. The showdown is really impressive and amazing, but you'll have to wait for a little bit to long. After the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past we received a whole new timeline, with the original triology still ofcourse in the back of our heads, and we spent a lot of time in the movie building this up, which is great, but sometimes distracts from the main villain and threat. ...
