Fall Movie Preview 2018

Image
Hey everybody, Summer is over and this summer season was off to a great start, but the last few weeks have been pretty 'boring'. Luckily there is more rain coming and the leaves will start to fall, which is always a good reason to get your ass over to the theatre and today I will give you the perfect list to find out what might interest you this fall. Enjoy! OCTOBER October 5 Venom  When Eddie Brock acquires the powers of a symbiote, he will have to release his alter-ego "Venom" to save his life. A Star Is Born  A musician helps a young singer and actress find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral. October 12 Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween  Halloween comes to life in a comedy adventure based on R.L. Stine's 400-million-selling series of books. First Man  A look at the life of the astronaut, Neil Armstrong, and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the Moon on July 20, 1969....

August & September reviews - Christopher Robin and The House with a Clock in Its Walls

Hey everybody, If anyone is wondering, no I am not sick or feeling ill, there was just nothing to see these past two months in my opinion and my personal life was really busy. I don't know how I can otherwise explain the fact that I've visit the theater twice in almost 60 days. Luckily those days are over and I am here to review them.    Christopher Robin   (★★★☆☆) I know my birthday has just passed, but can someone give me a Pooh bear please? The fuzzy little old bear and his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood will charm their way of the screen and will learn you a valuable life lesson, even though you can see that life lesson coming from far, far away.  The House with a Clock in Its Walls   (★★★☆☆) Who'd have thought that Jack Black and Cate Blanchett would quite the pair. Together they carry this charming and creepy fantasty movie. I say 'creepy' because some parts really creeped me out where I probably should have been scared, but this movie is bette...

July reviews - Mamma Mia! 2, Ant-Man 2 and M:I-6

Hey everybody, Summer is here and it's on in The Netherlands. Last week the temperature reaches up to 36 degrees (Celcius). So the hot weather gives plenty of oppurtinity to go to the cinema in search of some cooling. This month's themes are 'sequels' and 'installments'; from the 20th installment to the MCU to the 6th installment to the Mission: Impossible franchise. Ant-Man and the Wasp  (★★★★☆) The long wait for Avengers 4 has only just begon; but luckily there is plenty of Marvel fun inbetween to enjoy. The Ant-Man sequel is another fine example that the Marvel studio is the producer of solid and fun movies. The movie isn't really special or one of Marvel's best; but it provides plenty of action, fun and lots of laughs from the hilarious cast and script. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (★★★☆☆) If I have one guilty pleasure in the land of movies, then it's defenitly the movie Mamma Mia!. Maybe because I was raised listening to the songs of ABB...

June reviews - Jurassic World 2, Ocean's 8 and Star Wars

Hey everybody, After the disapointment that was last May, June was a lot better. I got to see the Jurassic World sequel, the Ocean's spin-off with an all female cast and finally the origin of Han Solo; so let's get into that right now. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (★★★☆☆) Who can argue with the fact that dinosaurs still hold a pretty special place in the heart of almost everybody; because seeing them on the big screen is still awesome. The Jurassic World sequel is a fun and very entertaining sequel. It's not the most original movie, but do we need any excuse to see dinosaurs be badass on the big screen? I think what saved this movie is the fact that they upped the horror-monster factor with the introduction of a new scary dinosaur, and I can only wait and see what they will bring in Jurassic World 3 Ocean's Eight (★★☆☆☆) An Ocean's Eleven spin-off with an all female cast including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham-Carter; sounds like an aw...

May reviews - Deadpool 2

Hey everybody, Summer is here and people are genuinely more happier. I don't know if that's because the sun started to shine more often or because Avengers: Infinity War has become one of the biggest movie hits yet. But that movie is 'already' a month old and we still got a whole lot of great stuff coming our way. First of all I want to apologize for this month, because as the title suggest I only will be reviewing Deadpool 2. That's pretty shameful, but I am in the final stage of my education and my personal life has been pretty hectic these past few weeks. That is why I haven't had the time yet to see Solo: A Star Wars Story . I just hope I can conclude it by the end of June. Deadpool 2 (★★★★☆)  Remember the speech I always give about making sequels etcetera? Well, people always expect sequels to be better then the original right? Deadpool 2 is not better then the first one, but I would say it's very similar. If you liked the first one, you will a...

April reviews - Rampage and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Hey everybody, April was a pretty 'boring' month if it wasn't for the release of the most anticipated movie of the MCU so far: Avengers: Infinity War. I have only seen two movies in cinema this month, and that is pretty rare in my life. We'll see if make that up in the next few weeks, but first let's review April Rampage (★★★☆☆) If you look closely, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, is probably not the best actor in Hollywood, but the man does have quite a lot of charism. That is why only he could carry this movie. The plot is Rampage is very thin, but it's only an excuse to see big monsters battle each other and mankind. Let's be honest that is the only reason why you would see Rampage, and they succeeded in bringing that in full monster glory Avengers: Infinity War (★★★★★) I don't know where to start here, but for a massive MCU fan like me, Infinity War was an emotional but thrilling rollercoaster ride. The action, the humor and the drama is...

Summer Movie Preview 2018

Image
Hey everybody, The sun here in the Netherlands is shining again, and that means summer is on it's way. Summer movie season officially starts at the beginning of May. Now since Avengers: Infinity War was released a week earlier, it officially doesn't belong on this list anymore, but I couldn't help to give a shout-out to it. Luckily there are plenty more anticipated movies to be released this summer.    Just like last year I am here to shed a light at the summer movies that will be released between May and August that will hopefully blow us away. MAY May 18 Deadpool 2 After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry's hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to dis...

March reviews - Tomb Raider, Ready Player One and more

Hey everybody, The Oscars have past by pretty boring this year, but I think it was a fair awardshow. There were a lot of different movies who won an Oscar. The biggest winner was The Shape of Water , which received four Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. After its win, I really had to go see the movie, and find out if it was as good as everyone said it was. But there are much more reviews here for this month, including Red Sparrow, the new Lara Croft reboot-movie and a new Spielberg movie. Red Sparrow (★★★☆☆) ''A good, old fashion spy thriller'' I think that is the best way to describe Red Sparrow. Jennifer Lawrence is back, after a pretty quiet 2017, and she proves why she is one of the most talented actresses working today. Red Sparrow is a tale of deception and manipulation, and features raw scenes of heavy violence. Not the best spy thriller, but still a fun and decent movie. The Shape of Water (★★★★☆) Is there something like too much expectati...

February reviews - Black Panther, Fifty Shades and more

Hey everybody, The Oscars are almost, almost here. March 4 is going to be an exciting day for Hollywood and I have actually no clue which movie is going to win. It can go almost any direction. But before the Best Picture Oscar is going to be awarded, I am here to look back at the past month. Here are my reviews of the new addition to the MCU, the final movie (finally!) in the Fifty Shades triology and more ofcourse! The Post (★★★★☆) Okay let me see if I know how to make a great movie: what if I take Tom Hanks (a living legend) and Meryl Streep (another living legend), who surprisingly never worked with each other before. Okay, now I give them a solid script and as the final touch I'll put Steven Spielberg behind the camera then he is definitely able to make something great out of it. Guess what? It worked like hell, because The Post is just a great solid movie that defenitely deserves a watch. Black Panther (★★★★☆) Marvel has the ultimate ability to give every new MCU mov...

January reviews - Maze Runner and All the Money in the World

Hey everybody, 2018 has officially started and Hollywood is slowly preparing for the Oscars. So if you are looking for big Hollywood blockbusters, you will not find it for at least a few weeks. Right now, at the end of January, the cinema is the place to go for biopics, thrillers and dramas. Oh and somewhere between all this Oscar 'violence' is the release of the final Maze Runner movie. All the Money in the World (★★★★☆) In Dutch we have a saying 'Geld maakt niet gelukkig', which translates to money doesn't make you happy. This saying is once again proven in All the Money in the World. Originally the role of JP Getty was played by Kevin Spacey, but after the scandal around him, he was entirely cut out of the movie and replaced by Christopher Plummer. Now, although Kevin Spacey is a great actor, Christopher Plummer and the rest of the cast shine in their roles in this well executed thriller-drama. You can feel Michelle Williams' character her pain and desp...

2018 - My 10 most anticipated movies

Image
Hey everybody, 2017 has come to an end and overall it's been a pretty good year in movies. A few highly anticipated movies came out and performed well. The only downside of this year was the box office numbers during the summer, they were pretty disappointing, which resulted into a few flops. But we are not here today to look at the past, we are here to look at the future. With 2018 here it is time for me to make a list of my most anticipated movies for 2018. Please note that these movies are in random order. Let us get started then! 1- Avengers Infinity War (May 4)   Undoubtely every addition to the MCU is anticipated. So  Black Panther (February 16) and  Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6) also deserve a mention on my list. But if I have to choose between the three movies I will defenitly choose for the movie the MCU has been preparing for for a long time now. Now, I haven't seen any of the trailers for this movie, but I know this is going to be one hell of a movie....

December reviews - Coco, Star Wars and Jumanji

Hey everybody, It's time for change. I am going to be honest: I am not that enthusiastic for writing reviews as I was when I started my blog. I have been the owner of this blog for two years now and I have noticed that I have not really grown in popularity. Writing a full review has become harder, especially because I write the review in two languages. That is why I am introducing a new concept. I will now release a blog at the end of each month in which I review the movies I have seen that month in just a few sentences. This will take me a lot less time to write them, because there is no pressure in writing them the same night that I have seen the movie. Maybe this way I will gain back some of the enthusiasm I had two years ago. Time to review  Coco (★★★★☆) I can honestly say that it has been a long time since I cried so hard during a movie. I have always had a weakness for animated movies, but this movie really hit me in the heart. The story is beautiful. but if you think a...

Quick reviews: Thor Ragnarok & Justice League

Hey everybody, Been a long time since I spoke to you, but you already knew I would be quiet for 2 months. Luckily I found the time between sweating my pants of in 33 degree Celsius and painting the walls of a school to write two quick reviews. If you follow me on Instagram you have seen that I was able to see Thor Ragnarok in Thailand, and there is more good news, because I was also able to see Justice League last week as well. I write you guys to give you all two quick reviews on the new installments to the MCU and the DCEU. Thor: Ragnarok This movie was unlike any other Marvel movie I have ever seen before. It was so m enjoyeduch more funny and sarcastic then previous installments. It took me the first part of the movie to get used to that, but from the moment Thor stepped into the arena I fell in love with these movie. seeing Thor interact with the Hulk and a bunch of other great new chracters was an absolute pleasure to behold. The tone of this movie is very different, but any...

MovieManouk going abroad

Hey everybody, Do you remember when I wrote this quote in my Fall Movie Preview 2017 blog: ' This fall will be pretty weird for me, because I will probably won't have the chance to see most of these movies in the theate r '. Well, it's finally time to explain what I meant by this quote. I may have mentioned somewhere in some blog or review that I'm currently studying to become a Dental Hygienist. After 3 years I finally reached my final year. This year I was given the opportion to study abroad and I took this opportunity with both hands. From October 20 till December 17 I will carry out voluntary work in Thailand and Cambodia. I will also travel around those two countries and will probably become a typical tourist. You know, the one who constantly takes pictures and has a standard look of amazement on her face. You may guess that going abroad is going to have some consequences on my daily life. For example, I have to say goodbye to my friends and family for 2 mo...

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (NL) Review

Image

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (EN) Review

Image
Hey everybody, I'm going to be honest: I wasn't a big fan of the first Kingsman movie back in 2014. I was a bit more fainthearted then and was absolutely 'shocked' during the church scene. I never saw the movie again and wasn't really excited when I heard they were making a sequel, but times have certainly changed and I own a movieblog now so I was willing to give it another shot. I've never been so wrong about a movie before I think, because I absolutely loved the first one yesterday. The church scene was much more gruesome in my imagination and the final battle scene is absolutely brilliant. But we are not here to talk about the first movie, we are here to talk about the sequel. Seeing the two movies made me release that they are indeed very similar, but if you're a fan of the first one, you wouldn't really mind right? The action is still a little extravagant but great, and the humor is still point especially now the movie can accent the differences ...

Fall Movie Preview 2017

Image
Hey everybody, Goodbye summer, until next year. This year, movie wise, we had a good year I think. But the box office, the ticket sales at the cinemas, had a rough year. For some reason people weren't really interested in going to the theater this summer. A shame really, but there's nothing we can do about it now. So it's time to look ahead to the movies that are coming to us this fall. This fall will be pretty weird for me, because I will probably won't have the chance to see most of these movies in the theater (I'll explain that later). Time to get started first. September September 15: Mother!  A couple's relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.  American Assassin A story centered on counterterrorism agent Mitch Rapp.  September 22: Kingsman: The Golden Circle  When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, the Kingsman's journey leads them to the discovery of an...

The Dark Tower (EN) Review

Image
Hey everybody, With the release of yet another book-to-movie adaptation, brings back the usual question: 'Which of the two should be watched/read first?' Opinions on the matter differ very much. Reading a book you probably create a vision in your head about the characters and setting. Seeing the movie can be disappointing when it isn't the way you imagined it, or pleasing when it's better then the way you imagined it. They're many examples of great adaptations like the  Harry Potter franchise  or  The Lord of the Rings Triology,  but also many that failed to deliver. Movies often differ from the books, which can anger fans immensely. I could go on and on about this matter for hours but it's probably better to get back to the subject that matter today: the release of  The Dark Tower  based on the popular book series by Stephen King. Note: I haven't read the books. The Dark Tower has a relatively short runtime (1h 35 min) and they aren't wasting a secon...

The Dark Tower (NL) Review

Image
The Dark Tower  is een relatief korte film (...

Game of Thrones S07E07 Recap

Image
Hey everybody, Here's my weekly *SPOILER* recap of the latest Game of Thrones episode. I will list the most important developments of this week's epidose. This week's that will be Episode 7 'The Dragon and the Wolf'. Daenerys, Jon, Tyrion and the rest of their company arrive at the Dragonpit, where they planned their meeting with Cersei and Jaime . They show Cersei and Jaime the wight they brought with them who are shocked. Cersei agrees to help them as long as Jon doesn't pick a side between the two Queens, but he confesses he can't do that because he already pledged loyalty to Daenerys . Cersei blows of the deal and Tyrion  is the only one who could talk her out of it with his own life on the risk. They have a heated conversation but he convinces her to join the cause and agrees to send her armies north to help fight the Army of the Dead. Sansa discusses with Littlefinger what she should do about her sister Arya . He plays a little game wi...
